Rated 4 out of 5 by $%^^& from Love the waterproof feature Bought about a month ago. Very rugged and, thankfully, so far 100% waterproof. I like the light weight combined with durability. I had trouble getting an adequate wide fitting. I take a UK 9.5 but ended up with a UK 10 ultra wide and its perfect.

I have had two of the previous iterations of this shoe over a period of 12 years, and they have been amazing despite plenty of abuse. They have always been comfortable, sure footed and durable, but the lacing system is the best feature. They are my default pair of shoes for almost anything. When my last pair started to fall apart I started looking around for a new pair. I was surprised to see a lot of negative reviews of the latest version, citing crushing over the toes as the main issue. It put me off for a few months and I made do with my old pair. Eventually I decided to buy a pair, thinking that Salomon were too good a company to have made such a bad shoe and the reviewers must be exaggerating. I should have listened to the reviewers. The structure of the front of the upper is different to previous models and it crushes my toes on every step. I am going to see if wearing them in helps as these are not a cheap pair of shoes that you can just throw away. I am not hopeful though. If anyone at Salomon reads this, please go back to the old design or you will lose a lot of loyal customers.

Rated 2 out of 5 by GrantP from Somewhat disappointed I bought this a little while back and have put a few miles on them. I was extremely happy with my previous purchase kf the Ultra 3 but have been disappointed with this latest version of Ultra 4 where one of the plastic side stripes have been digging into my foot. If it were not be for this anomaly I would be very impressed. Probably too soon to decide whether I would risk another purchase once these are worn out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Pugwash from Well supported I had owned a pair of Salomon walking shoes previously and need wide fitting (2E) . I am highly delighted with these , the support is fantastic . I normally have to wear insoles, but this is the first pair of any make of shoe that I can comfortably wear without any insole . The females in my family told me I didn’t need to spend so much on a pair of walking shoes , to keep them happy I did look , but to no avail. When it comes to buying a wide fitting shoe , you are very limited and being Gore-tex as well. I got a good discount through Spotsshoes.
